Attorney Profiles

Justin Blitz joined Shandell, Blitz, Blitz & Ashley immediately following his graduation from New York Law School in May 2003. In July 2003, Mr. Blitz sat for the New York State Bar Examination, which he passed, and he was admitted to the New York State Bar Association in March 2004. Mr. Blitz was also admitted to the Southern District of New York in April 2004.

Since joining the firm in 2003, Mr. Blitz has had a very active trial schedule. He has picked numerous juries and started many trials, most of which have settled mid-trial due to his strong negotiating skills and tenacious personality. In fact, most weeks Mr. Blitz will be found in one of the local area courthouses either picking a jury or in the middle of a trial.

Mr. Blitz's most recent trial resulted in an extremely successful verdict for the client. After a two-week trial and hours of deliberation, the jury returned a verdict in the amount of $2.3 million. Justin's hard work paid off as the outcome was beyond the firm's and the clients' expectations.

At Shandell Blitz, Mr. Blitz is responsible for a variety of different cases with an emphasis on auto accidents, negligent security, and premise liability cases. His daily duties include making court appearances, taking depositions, meeting with new clients, and generally all aspects of a case from its inception to its eventual conclusion. Mr. Blitz will meet with you personally the first day you contact him for your legal issue and then will personally handle all aspects of your case including a trial until a satisfactory conclusion has been reached.

Since Mr. Blitz has been with the firm he has handled over a hundred cases personally and has only had clients give positive feedback about their experiences with Mr. Blitz and the results he was able to obtain on their behalf.

Mr. Blitz has become very active in the politics concerning his profession. In 2005, Mr. Blitz became the Chairperson for the Young Lawyers of The New York State Trial Lawyers Association. Mr. Blitz earned a B.A., from the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, with a special interest in international economics and politics. During law school, Mr. Blitz used his supervisory and entrepreneurial skills to run a successful booking and music management company. Mr. Blitz sold this endeavor so that he can focus solely on his work with the firm. Outside the office Mr. Blitz is part owner a New York area nightclub and enjoys running, exercising, tennis and playing backgammon.

Mr. Blitz is the youngest son of founding partner and current Of Counsel Bert Blitz and the nephew of senior partner Arthur Blitz. He is in court most weekday mornings but can be found in the office almost every afternoon.

Significant Victories:

$2.3 Million verdict from a Bronx jury who found the landlord of a Bronx building liable for the injury of a tenant who was attacked inside the lobby of the building. Our client, 37 years old at the time of the attack, was a tenant in the building who was retrieving his mail when he was attacked and beaten with a baseball bat by two unknown attackers. As a result of the attack, our client suffered an epidural hematoma requiring a craniotomy and a fractured clavicle. Mr. Blitz proved throughout the two-week trial that there had been several similar attacks in the building and that the locks to the lobby doors had been broken for months before the attack. Despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, the landlord maintained he knew nothing about prior attacks or broken lobby doors. After more than four hours of deliberation, the jury returned a unanimous verdict for our client totaling $2.3 million.

$425,000 settlement for a client who was injured in a boiler accident. Injuries included burns on both legs from boiling water that was leaking from a boiler that was left in a negligent position.

$180,000 settlement for three clients who were involved in a car accident. The three SBB&A clients were injured when the vehicle they were traveling in was hit from behind by another vehicle. After picking a jury and at the eve of trial, a settlement was reached that was approved by all parties.

$150,000 settlement for client in her medical malpractice action against a doctor who manipulated her neck, which caused an aggravation of a preexisting injury, which led to a herniation and terrible pain. Mr. Blitz was able to work out a reduction of over $100,000 in liens owed by his client.

$150,000 for a client who lost the tip of her index finger from a sculptor machine. The client was a student at a university and Mr. Blitz sued the university alleging negligent supervision.

$100,000 for a client who slipped and fell at a local supermarket. The client sustained an injury to his shoulder which required surgery.

$75,000 for a client who had a rotator cuff injury which was the result of a taxi cab accident.
