$10.4 Million Award In Malpractice Suit
A BRONX jury this week found North Shore University Hospital on Long Island liable for a $10.4 million verdict to a 30-year-old man who became paraplegic because of the failure of its doctors to perform decompressive surgery to treat a spinal cord injury.

The plaintiff, Victor Delgado, who was sent to the hospital with fractured vertebrae following a car accident, claimed the surgery would have enabled him to have some mobility, instead of being confined to a wheelchair. The major portion of the award, $7 million, was for future medical rehabilitation.

The plaintiff was represented by Richard Shandell of Glaser, Shandell & Blitz; the hospital by Wayne Rabinowitz of Wilson, Elser, Moskowitz, Edelman & Dicker. Supreme Court Justice Jerry L. Crispino presided over the trial.
